A practical guide to handling an employment tribunal claim

This workshop takes delegates through the management of an employment tribunal case from the date the claim arrives to the trial. It includes the nitty-gritty of the paperwork, negotiation and tactics before you even set foot in the tribunal. This is where many cases settle and it’s important to manage this time effectively.

Delegates will be taken through the pre-trial process that a respondent must follow to defend a claim when it receives an ET1. Starting with the receipt of a real ET1, delegates will be guided all the way through the process to trial, practising each part of the process on a set of real tribunal papers. Participants will be taken step-by-step through the preparation of a tribunal case, with hints and tips on the practical management by an experienced and practising advocate.

The course covers the following:

  • what to do when you receive an employment tribunal claim (the ET1)
  • assessing the case and filling out the ET3
  • role of ACAS
  • directions and case management
  • obtaining additional information
  • statutory questionnaires
  • disclosure and inspection of documents
  • pre-hearing reviews
  • preparing for trial
  • preparing the bundle
  • settling a claim
  • costs orders
